Uganda's U-20 national football team will play Burkina Faso in the Quarter finals of the Total AFCON tournament going on in Mauritania.
Burkina Faso toppled group B when they beat Namibia 1:0 in their final group match. Thanks to substitute Kouame Botue's goal that confirmed the fixture.
Uganda Hippos will now face Burkina Faso on 26th February,2021 at the Stade Olympique Nouakchott.
Uganda finished second in group A with wins against Mozambique and tournament hosts Mauritania but lost to Cameroon who were eventual group winners with maximum points.
On the quarter finals draw against Burkina Faso, the Hippos head coach Morley Byekwaso had this to comment...
"Am thankful to God for the luck granted to us that enabled us reach this milestone. Burkina Faso is not an easy task to take on, they are tall and physical but Am Optimistic God who helped us reach here will also grant us a chance to progress to the next level. We shall have to keep or even improve our speedy and fast style of football"
The top four teams of the tournament would have normally qualified for the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia as the CAF representatives. However, FIFA decided to cancel the tournament on 24 December 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
