It was all smiles all over Ugandans across the country as 19 year old long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo won Gold in the Men's 5000m of IAAF Golden Spike 2020 Athletics meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on Tuesday 8th September, 2020.

The sensational runner clocked 12:48:63 beating AS World Championship silver medalist and Ethiopian Selemon Barega, the day's most fancied runner infront of 3,000 spectators who were allowed entry at Mestsky Stadium in Czech Republic.

Kiplimo now sets a new record of 12:48:63 and beat Stephen Cherono’s record of 12:48.81 set in 2003.

Kiplimo built on the success attained in the 10KM Simplyhealthy Great Manchester Run last year when he clocked 27:31 - the fourth-fastest time for 10km run on the roads last year.
