Uganda National Netball team benefits from COVID-19, automatically qualifies for World Cup

The COVID-19 pandemic has seemed a blessing in disguise for the Uganda U21 national team who have gained automatic qualification for the INF Netball World Youth Cup.

The development comes after the pandemic led to the withdrawal of the qualification procedure that was scheduled for October this year. On this note thereafter, the Netball's governing body, International Netball Federation qualified Uganda according to the senior team's performance. The decision was reached up on in the online meeting of the International Netball Federation held on 23rd May, 2020.

The meeting a unanimous decision reached on qualified South Africa, Malawi and Uganda who are 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the current continent's rankings. The three sides will represent Africa in the World Cup.

The 2021 INF World Youth Cup will take place from 10th-19th June at Vodafone Arena on the island of Viti Levi in the capital city of Suva.

The INF Netball World youth Cup is a quadrennial international netball world youth championship initiated in 1988. The last edition (2017) was held in Gaborone, Botswana and was the first time the INF has held an international event on the African Continent. It was won by New Zealand who are joint top winners on four along with Australia.
