UCU Canons beat champions City Oilers in Game 1 of Basketball Finals

UCU Canons Basketball team yesterday managed to defeat the 6 time champions City Oilers team with 67 to 59 points in the first game of the National Basketball League Finals, a game that was played at the Indoor Stadium Lugogo.

In the ladies finals game that was played prior to the men’s game, UCU Lady Canons also held down Champions JKL Lady Dolphins with 71 – 69 points.

The Wednesday game was the first of the finals game series where more six games will be played to determine the champion who gets better results in seven games (Best of 7).

City Oilers have been Champions of Uganda National Basketball league for the last six seasons while UCU Canons are on the finals for the second time after their 2015 finals debut. UCU triumphed to the finals after defeating Betway Power Basketball team in the semi finals while City Oilers defeated Warriors Basketball Team.

Chuma Fadhili the Canons player was the Player of the Game after scoring 11 points and 15 Rebs and 4 assists bagging 100,000 shs while Rose Akon was the Player of the Game in the UCU Lady Canons and JKL lady Dolphins game with 22 points 17 Rebs and 3 Assists.

The Canons had full time control of the game leading the first quarter with 12:9, Second quarter with 30: 28, third quarter 51:43 and the final quarter with 67:59.

Game two will be played tomorrow on Friday 29th Nov starting with the ladies match at 18:30 and men’s game at 20:30. Will UCU Canons continue to challenge City Oilers in the subsequent games?
