The National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially endorsed lawyer Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola as its candidate for the upcoming Kawempe North parliamentary by-election. This follows the unfortunate passing of Muhammad Ssegirinya, the previous MP and NUP member.

Mr. Nalukoola secured 71% of the votes, emerging as the preferred candidate among ten aspirants, including:

  • Mathias Mulumba
  • Moses Nsereko
  • Salim Sserunkuuma
  • Fredrick Kakika
  • Charles Rubagumya

Upon his selection, Mr. Nalukoola expressed gratitude to NUP, stating, “I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to NUP for blessing me to be the party flag bearer for Kawempe North MP seat. I am a loyal member of the National Unity Platform whose affiliation should not be put to the question.”

NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya emphasized that the selection was transparent and merit-based, with the evaluation criteria as follows:

  • 40% – Vetting process
  • 10% – Debate performance
  • 50% – Ground visibility and mobilization

He urged all party members to rally behind Mr. Nalukoola, acknowledging that while many had their own preferred candidates, only one could be chosen.
