Longtime Leone Island singer Papa Cidy, real name Hamidu Sekyeru, has come out to publicly align himself with the LGBTQ Pride movement. In his post, the 38-year-old singer expressed his exhaustion with hiding his identity, stating that it’s time for him to “be out.”


In a move that has sparked mixed reactions from netizens,  especially his fans, Papa Cidy tagged Pastor Kayanja and Miracle Center Cathedral, adding further intrigue to the revelation. His post concluded with the inclusion of the rainbow flag, a widely recognized symbol of LGBTQ pride.

“Am tired of hiding myself, it’s time to be out. Pastor Kayanja ebyaffe obimanyi. Miracle Center Cathedral, Papa Cidy wrote, hinting at a long-hidden truth.

For many fans and followers, this revelation came as a surprise, especially considering the cultural backdrop in Uganda, where LGBTQ issues remain highly contentious. Discussions have already started online, with reactions ranging from support to criticism.

Since relocating to the diaspora, Papa Cidy had largely stayed out of the limelight, but this recent revelation has quickly brought him back into the public eye, sparking a variety of opinions and fueling an ongoing conversation about LGBTQ visibility in Ugandan society.
