President Yoweri Museveni has opened up about the surprising role his daughter, Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, has played in deepening his faith. Speaking at the "Light Up Eastern Region for Jesus" conference in Tororo District, he credited her for bringing him closer to God.

The event, organized by Pastor Patience, drew thousands of worshipers from across the region, making it a significant moment for the faithful.

During his address, Museveni expressed gratitude for having a priest within his own family. “After 147 years of Christianity in Uganda, a priest has emerged from my house,” he said, reflecting on how his family's past as cattle keepers kept them distant from both the church and government for many years. His remarks were a nod to Uganda’s long history with Christianity, while also highlighting his pride in his daughter's calling.

Initially, Museveni admitted he didn’t fully appreciate Patience’s ministry work. He would occasionally attend her preaching sessions but confessed that he didn’t give them much attention, thinking there were already enough priests. It wasn’t until Patience wrote a book about her spiritual journey that the President began to understand the depth of her mission. “This book made me realize I didn’t understand much about the Bible,” Museveni said, acknowledging that it changed his perspective on scripture and faith.

The President also reflected on his past experience with the Scripture Union in the 1950s, which he eventually left due to disagreements over their teachings. He recalled how the group discouraged the pursuit of earthly wealth, instead focusing on heavenly riches. Museveni, however, believed strongly in the value of hard work and economic empowerment, principles that have guided his leadership over the years. “How can you say earthly wealth is useless?” he asked, stressing the importance of working to uplift both individuals and communities.

Museveni went on to praise Patience’s ministry for aligning with the government’s long-standing goals of unity and poverty eradication. He highlighted her efforts to promote reconciliation, particularly between the Bateso and Badama people in Eastern Uganda. “I am happy that Patience’s mission is helping spread the message of unity,” he said, noting how the church’s work complements the government’s focus on fostering peace and development.
