Film director John Segawa and Saabwe Conrad Lubwama, son of late Kato Lubwama, are in a bitter fight with singer Lil Pazo Lunabe for releasing his version of the classic song "Kirabe Ebiiso," a song originally performed by the late Kato Lubwama and Immaculate Nabiryo. Lil Pazo’s rendition, titled "Irena," is a dedication to his long-time crush, fellow singer Irene Ntale.
Lil Pazo's move hasn't gone down well with a significant chunk of music lovers, particularly John Segawa and Saabwe Conrad. Taking to his X handle, John Segawa accused Lil Pazo of plagiarism and urged him to seek permission from those responsible for the late Kato Lubwama's estate. Segawa didn't stop there; he also tagged notable figures like Uganda Musicians Federation President Eddy Kenzo and music icon Mesach Semakula, calling for their intervention.
"Mr. Lunabe, look for those responsible for the late Paulo Kato Lubwama’s estate and creative works. Apologize and seek permission to use this song before it’s too late. Plagiarism and copyright infringement are crimes," Segawa tweeted passionately.
Saabwe Conrad also chimed in, expressing his disappointment with Lil Pazo’s actions. He viewed it as a disrespectful attempt to gain popularity by using his father's work. "All for pop corn clout, you disrespect a dead man's work of art," Saabwe lamented.
The debate over "Kirabe Ebiiso" has stirred quite the storm, leaving fans divided. Will Lil Pazo make amends, or will this musical spat escalate further? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the Ugandan music scene is anything but dull!
