Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba has announced the departure of Fred Enanga from his role as Police Spokesperson as he embarks on a new journey as the Deputy Director at Interpol Uganda.

Fred Enanga has become a familiar face and voice in households across Uganda, known for his calm demeanor and articulate defense of police actions. While his tenure garnered mixed reactions from the public—praised for his brilliance by some and questioned for his transparency by others—one thing remains clear: his commitment to the force has been undeniable.

Enanga's police career began in 2001, following his training as an economist. His initial posting was as an Operations Officer in Entebbe, where his exemplary performance led to a promotion as Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) at Natete Police Station. Here, Enanga made a notable impact by significantly reducing crime rates in the Kitebi and Busega areas within just six months.

His career trajectory continued upward, with roles in Ssembabule District, Lira Municipality, and the CID headquarters in Kibuli, where he managed the Economic Crimes Department and Lands Police. Enanga's first stint as Police Spokesperson began in 2014, and after a brief interruption, he returned to the role in 2019, serving a total of seven years.

Enanga's departure marks the end of an era, as he hands over the reins to Assistant Commissioner of Police Kituuma Rusoke.
