The Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles, 75, has been diagnosed with a form of cancer. The specific type remains undisclosed, but it was discovered during recent treatment for an enlarged prostate, ruling out prostate cancer.

The King initiated "regular treatments" on Monday, prompting a temporary pause in his public duties. Despite the setback, the Palace assures that King Charles is resolute in his positivity about the treatment and eagerly anticipates a swift return to full public duty.

Details regarding the stage of cancer or prognosis have not been disclosed. The King personally informed both his sons, with Prince William maintaining regular contact and Prince Harry, currently residing in the United States, planning to visit the UK in the coming days.

Returning to London from Sandringham on Monday morning, King Charles has commenced outpatient treatment, focusing on managing the condition while maintaining his constitutional role as head of state. The King will temporarily forgo public events but continue with paperwork and private meetings.

The constitutional mechanism for instances when the head of state cannot fulfill official duties involves appointing "counsellors of state." Currently, this includes Queen Camilla, Prince William, the Princess Royal, and Prince Edward.

Prince Harry and the Duke of York, as non-working royals, are no longer part of this mechanism. Prince William had briefly withdrawn from public engagements to support his wife, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, during her recovery from abdominal surgery.

The King's cancer diagnosis stems from a separate concern identified during a recent prostate procedure at a private London hospital. Initially deemed for a "benign" condition, the intervention led to the subsequent diagnosis.

The decision to publicly address his cancer treatment aligns with King Charles's history of supporting cancer-related charities during his tenure as Prince of Wales. He previously advocated for prostate checks, contributing to a surge in awareness and inquiries.

Acknowledging the King's openness, the Royal Society of Medicine emphasized the importance of screenings, expressing gratitude for shedding light on the indiscriminate nature of cancer.
