VIDEO: Fire Guts DAS Handling Services at Entebbe International Airport and Destroys Property Worth Billions

Firefighters made efforts to contain fire that burnt down DAS Handling warehouse near Entebbe International Airport destroying property worth billions including newly imported mosquito nets according to a statement issued by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.

According to info we received, the fire, whose cause is being investigated, broke out on Tuesday at about 3pm at a warehouse belonging to DAS services, one of the ground handling agencies operating at the airport.

It is said that mosquito nets worth billions of shillings that had been imported by the National Medical Stores on behalf of the Ministry of Health among other items, have been destroyed.

"An incident involving a fire outbreak occurred at the DAS Warehouse located in the vicinity of Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. A joint team of firefighting services is engaged to contain the blazing fire.

"The fire that gutted the airport happened in the night on Tuesday, September 13, 2023. The exact cause of the fire will be investigated. Warehouses belonging to both the DAS Handlers Agency and the National Medical Store were the most affected. National Medical Stores lost mosquito nets. We will get to the heart of the cause of this fire. DAS is one of the ground handlers operating at the airport, with offices adjacent to the Protea Hotel, outside the airport's perimeter fence," The spokesperson of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Vianney Luggya said.
