After thumping Burundi 3:0 in the return leg of CHAN qualifiers played yesterday Saturday 19th October, 2019 at the Star Times Stadium Lugogo, the Cranes qualified for the fifth consecutive CHAN tournament finals on a 6:0 aggregate score.

Uganda Cranes scored through current league topscorer Fahad Bayo (6goals) of Vipers in the 5th minute with Wakiso Giants' Vianne Ssekajugo and KCCA's Allan Kayiwa scoring the other two in the 71st and 82nd minute respectively.

The win for the locally based players means Abdullah Mubiru who has been at the team's helm is the third Ugandan coach to lead a National team for an African competition.

The other two coaches are Peter Okee who led Uganda Cranes to the Africa Cup of Nations in 1978 and Moses Basena who led Uganda Cranes to the most recent CHAN tournament in 2017.

The qualification means Uganda has qualified for all tournaments except for the inaugural tournament in 2009. CHAN 2020 competitions will be hosted in Cameroon and starts from January to February 2019.
