Motorists in Kampala’s Central Business District are set to face major changes after Kampala Capital City Authority officially suspended on-street vehicle parking along sections of Kampala Road and Jinja Road.
The announcement, made on May 13, 2026, affects the stretch from the Entebbe Road junction up to the Jinja Road/Yusuf Lule junction near Kitgum House.
According to KCCA, the decision was taken to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and support smoother movement within Kampala’s busy Central Business District.
In its official communication, the authority explained that the move is intended to reduce congestion caused by vehicles occupying roadside parking spaces along one of the city’s busiest routes.
Motorists have now been advised to use alternative parking areas including Station Road, Nkrumah Road parking spaces, and facilities around Uganda National Theatre and Uganda House.
The development has already sparked widespread debate online, with many Kampala residents praising the move as long overdue.
Road safety advocate Joseph Beyanga welcomed the decision, saying the city has for years struggled with unnecessary congestion caused by roadside parking in busy areas.
Government-linked social media accounts also applauded the policy, with some users saying Kampala should prioritize movement of people and vehicles instead of turning roads into parking spaces.
However, others argued that the enforcement should go beyond private vehicles and also target boda bodas operating and parking on pedestrian walkways.
Some social media users specifically questioned whether the new directive would affect boda boda riders who park along roadsides and ride through pavements within the city center.

As of now, KCCA has not yet publicly clarified the exact implementation date for the suspension, although motorists are already being urged to prepare for the changes.
