Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire has confirmed that at least 5 family members in Kabalagala in Kampala have been burnt to ashes after their house caught on fire as they were sleeping in the middle of the night.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Kabalagala is one of the busy and highly populated suburbs of Kampala and the inferno that claim the five people occured at Yoka Zone, Bukasa Parish, Makindye Division.
Owoyesigyire has identified the deceased as Steven Luyomba and his wife Doreen Nafula, and children who included Sumei Lubega, Edith Naiga, and one Andrew.
Police preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started from unattended candle from a makeshift house of Charles Ogola who deals in plastics and later spread to Luyomba’s home.
Owoyesigyire said that on several occasions, the cautioned the public against leaving fires unattended to because they are dangerous to others.
