The Government of Uganda has finally cleared the 'Nyege Nyege' Festival to take place but under strict guidelines following a heated debate in Parliament.
The development follows the ban by the Speaker of Parliament on Tuesday afternoon on grounds that the event affects the morals of the children in Uganda.
“No function should take place. You are selling tickets at the expense of the children of Ugandans. We are not going to allow this function to take place,” ruled Anita Among.
“We are talking about the morality of this nation; we are discussing our kids. You want to advance tourism at the expense of our children. We won’t allow it to take place,” she added.
This followed a concern from the Tororo Woman MP Hon Sarah Opendi who convinced the plenary how Nyege Nyege was breeding ground for sexual immorality In a presser on Wednesday afternoon, Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja has assured revelers how the event will be taking place but after harmonising with the arm of parliament on a number of resolutions.
The Nyege Nyege festival is set to take place in Jinja from September 15 to 18th is an event that attracts millions of people worldwide.
