Match day 5 of the 2022 Masaza Cup tournament has seen last year’s finalists Buwekula and Buddu get back to winning ways following losses in their last matches.
Buwekula who lost 3:1 from winning position last weekend have today beaten Butambala 3:0. Thanks to a brace from Musiibi Sharafah and a goal from Elvis Ssekajugo.
The win keeps Buwekula second on the table with 9 points, one point less of leaders Gomba who went on ten points following a barren stalemate away to Kabula at Kaliro Playground. However, Buwekula have a match in hand following the failure for their match against Kooki to be played a fortnight ago.
Buddu Saza team who had lost their last two matches in succession (losses to Buluuli and Kyadondo) also bounced back to winning ways after seeing off Mityana side Ssingo with a 1:0 score.
Last year’s tournament’s joint top scorer and a student at St. Lawrence University Bruno Bunyanga was the hero for the reigning champions with his goal fetching maximum points for the Masaka side.
Ibrahim Kirya who was named the new head coach for Buddu following the sacking of Steven Bogere started his job on a winning note. It should be noted that the tactician was at the helm of Gomba as the team won their fifth Masaza cup title.
It was Singo’s first loss this campaign having won all of their opening four matches though they remain at the table summit.
Kooki also played their second match of the tournament following their failure to play three home matches. Despite playing, Kooki fell to a to a 1:0 away loss to Mawokota in Buwama, thanks to a goal from Kayondo Joseph. Kooki remain winless having also lost their only other match away to Gomba.
