Massive crowds at Masaka Recreation Grounds as His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II opened the 2022 Masaza Cup tournament in Masaka City.
As the law stipulates, defending champions Buddu hosted the opening match in a bid to secure a third Masaza tournament triumph with a clash against derby side Mawogola.
In a tight encounter with limited chances, the match ended goalless with both sides looking to pose threats in the just started edition.
Following the return of fans in the play ground after a ban due to COVID-19 was lifted, Masaka recreation ground was filled to full capacity with the whole of Masaka city surrounded by chants of praise to the Buganda Kingdom’s Kabaka.
Buddu who beat Buwekula 2:0 in the last tournament’s finals were drawn in group 1 along Mawogola, Ssingo,Kyadondo,Buvuma and Buluuli, with the group having three former tournament champions.
Action in Masaza Cup football tournament will resume next weekend on Saturday 2nd July as Buvuma will host Buluuli Saza team at Kasaali Play ground.
