The Kampala Metropolitan police on Monday evening recovered a suspicious bag that was abandoned in Namasuba along Entebbe road in Kampala bringing panic before being secured by the bomb squad.
According to a statement put up on their social media, the Police cleared the air stating that it was just an abandoned innocent bag.
“We would like to inform the general public that today, 25/10/2021, at about 1530hrs, the police at Namasuba recieved information about an abandoned suit case suspected to be containing an explosive at Bata Bata, Namasuba, opposite Front Page Hotel.” reads part of the statement released by KMP spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigire.
Owoyesigire said that Bomb Squad officers responded and cordoned off the scene upon receipt of the information.
The team of bomb squad experts using a sniffer dog weren’t able to detect any bomb materials inside the bag, but went on to safely blow up the bag in order to open and know the contents.
