Hon. Jacob Oulanyah has been elected as the speaker of 1the 1th parliament with 310 votes as his rival Hon.Rebecca Kadaga secured only 197 votes and Hon.Ssemujju Nganda 15 votes.

Omoro County MP, Jacob Oulanyah is the new speaker of parliament after beating both his opponents to the post.

Oulanyah will now lead the 11th parliament until 2026 when elections will be held again.

Kadaga has been the speaker of parliament since 2011 and was contesting for a third term, but Oulanyah had other plans to unseat her.

Oulanyah has been deputizing Kadaga for the past 10 years. His intention to unseat her former boss was initially overpowered by NRM CEC members when they advised him to step down for Kadaga.

On Sunday, CEC endorsed Oulanyah to come unopposed as the party flag bearer but Kadaga disagreed, so she stood independent.
