Bobi Wine Supporter Sserunkuma Dies in Prison During Cultivation After Reportedly Being Beaten Brutally

National Unity Platform (NUP) and Bobi Wine supporter John Bosco Sserunkuma was reportedly flogged up badly during cultivation while in prison yet he had respiratory complications that led to his immediate death.

John Bosco Sserunkuma, who was one of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s ardent supporters.

Sserunkuma, who was one of the hundreds of Bobi Wine supporters that were arrested in Kalangala District in late December and were remanded until January 19th, 2021 despite having been granted bail by court, died after reportedly being flogged by a prisons warder only identified as Cpl. Odongo, while in custody of the Uganda Prisons Services (UPS).

According to the Commissioner General of prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija,  Sserunkuma died after he collapsed  while at a plantation following flogging from a prisons warder.

Announcing his death, Byabashaija wrote on social media on Sunday night thus; “We regret to announce the death of Sserunkuuma John Bosco prisoner No. KTA/MINR 10402/20 who dropped dead during the process of cultivation.

We urge for calmness as we investigate officer Cpl. Odong who reportedly whipped him yet he had respiratory complications since his admission.”
