The President of the Republic of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has on Sunday 20th September, 2020 addressed on the state of the nation in accordance to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
In among the many sectors hinted upon by His Excellency was the sports sector mainly the football sector hinting that football activities can resume given there are no spectators on the pitch.
Sports and football in particular has been in lock down for five months after the President ordered for the closure of the beautiful game in order to combat to the spread of COVID-19.
The lock down also led to the calling off of the season and henceforth declaring Vipers SC the champions of the league after 75% the league was played with Tooro United, Maroons and Proline FC getting relagated.
The FUFA Executive Committee sat and decided that football will return on 17th October, 2020 (Star Times Uganda Premier League) and FUFA Big League to return on 29 October,2020.
With this President's directive, we're looking forward to seeing if football will return without spectators where Clubs get the little finances to run the clubs.
President's conditions for which football should return. Open air activities of sports will re-open provided there are no spectators and the players are tested for Covid-19, 72 hours before. This test will expire in 14 days. Hence, the Sportsmen will have to repeat the test. This also applies:
Sportsmen and women should remember that masks should not be worn, when you are engaged in strenuous exercises.
With tournaments, teams should be quarantined for the whole season of the competition. Indoor sports activities, including gyms, remain closed.
