Is Startimes Going to Stop Sponsoring Uganda Premiere League? Top Bosses Speak Out

The Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) has Clarified on allegations that the League's sponsors, StarTimes will not complete the last quarter of the sponsorship deal if the Country's top league is not completed.

Speaking to Blizz Uganda early this morning of Saturday 9th May, 2020, Bernard Bainamani has rubbished the rumors that have been circulating around the country that Uganda Premier League sponsors StarTimes will not complete the deal if the league is not completed, he said there is no any official documents to his office about it and that he spoke to the Sponsor's Marketing Manager Aldrine Nsubuga the day before (Friday) but there wasn't anything like scrapping part of the accepted money.

Startimes have been sponsoring both the country's first Division (UPL) and second division (FUFA Big League) since 2018.

The Lucrative deal signed in August 2018 is worth 26,680,848,000Ugx and will run for ten years is arguably the biggest sponsorship deal in Ugandan sport.

The StarTimes Uganda Premier league is in recess due to the COVID-19 lock down and this came about with five matches to go. If the pandemic persists, Vipers will be crowned champions after topping the table after 75% of the matches being played.
