Museveni Changes URA and BOU Bosses, Sacks Doris Akol and Nominates Rujoki

The President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed John Musinguzi Rujoki to replace Doris Akol as the Commissioner General, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and also appointed Dr Michael Atingi-Ego as the new Deputy Governor, Bank of Uganda after forwarding his name to Parliament for vetting.

The President announced this in a tweet on Sunday afternoon. He wants Dr Michael Atingi-Ego as the new Deputy Governor, Bank of Uganda succeeding Dr Louis Kasekende whose contract ended in January.

“By virtue of powers granted to me by the Constitution, I have appointed Mr John Musinguzi Rujoki as the new Commissioner General of URA. This appointment takes immediate effect,” Museveni wrote on Twitter.

John Rujoki, a graduate of Makerere University and a holder of a UK Masters in IT has been the Senior Presidential Advisor on Investments. He was previously employed by the Special Revenue Protection Services (SRPS) under former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura’s tenure.

SRPS had replaced Anti-Smuggling Unit which was also commanded by Kale Kayihura. Doris Akol has been at the helm of the tax body since 2014 having replaced Allen Kagina who retired after two consecutive five-year terms.

Prior to that (2012 until 2014), Doris Akol was the Commissioner for Legal Affairs and Board Matters at the Uganda Revenue Authority. In that capacity, she also served as the Company’s Legal Secretary.
