Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Shamim Malende is undergoing surgery this morning in Nairobi, Kenya, following persistent health complications that have kept her in and out of hospitals for over a year.

According to sources close to the legislator, Malende is battling serious stomach-related complications, and her doctors have advised immediate surgical intervention. Although there are circulating rumors suggesting she may have been poisoned by political opponents, no official medical confirmation has been issued regarding these claims.

Malende, a strong figure in the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been serving her first term in Parliament since her election in 2021. Her health has remained a concern, with treatment sought not only in Uganda and Kenya but also in various hospitals across Europe. Despite all efforts, her condition has continued to worsen.

As she undergoes surgery, messages of support and prayers are pouring in from friends, family, colleagues, and constituents. The situation has also stirred political waters, as several individuals, including Nana Mwafrika and current Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, have already expressed interest in contesting her parliamentary seat come the next elections.

While the nation waits for updates on her recovery, many Ugandans are praying for a successful operation and renewed health for the outspoken and trailblazing legislator.
