Veteran Singer Dan Flavour, born Daniel Tumwesigye, has returned to Uganda following a disappointing experience in South Africa, where he had gone in search of better opportunities and was forced to become a witch-doctor.
Dan Flavour, known for hits such as "Rudi Nyumbani" and "Gwenjagala", has been in the music industry for over a decade, rising to prominence during the era of Radio and Weasel.
Despite his musical success, Dan Flavour has faced personal struggles, including a battle with depression and suicidal thoughts, which he bravely opened up about earlier this year. In search of a fresh start, he traveled to South Africa after being promised a lucrative job opportunity by a friend. However, upon arrival, he discovered that the job was a scam, requiring him to pose as a Sangoma (a traditional healer) and extort money from vulnerable individuals.
Dan Flavour refused to participate in the scam, stating that his passion lies in music and that he could not bring himself to take advantage of innocent people. He also revealed that many Ugandans in South Africa are involved in similar fraudulent activities, but he felt that his true calling was to sing and love people, not to deceive them.
"I could not survive in South Africa because the only job I know how to do is music, but they wanted me to steal and con people," he explained. "I believe in humanity, and that's why I couldn't do it. Imagine I boarded a plane just to go there and steal, but I couldn't because I wasn't born for that. I had to come back to Uganda."
