Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has marked his 31st coronation anniversary with a televised speech that sends a strong message to his subjects. Despite being under medical care for several months, the Kabaka assured his people that he has been closely monitoring the events in the kingdom and urged them to remain vigilant against those who seek to undermine the Buganda Kingdom.

Speaking with a blend of authority and concern, the Kabaka highlighted the recent issues that have plagued the kingdom, emphasizing that some individuals have acted in ways that insult and violate the kingdom's morals.

"The issues we have experienced in recent months have caused some people to unknowingly, or intentionally, insult and violate the morals of the kingdom and behave improperly. They have done many things to mislead our people about the throne and the kingdom. This is absolutely dangerous. You should be very careful with those people," he warned.

The Kabaka reiterated the importance of unity and respect for the kingdom's traditions and customs, cautioning that neglecting these could allow adversaries to take advantage. "We always encourage you to unite, protect, and respect our traditions and customs. This is where the enemy can pass if we neglect these issues," he said.

In a clarifying note about the kingdom's governance, Kabaka Mutebi reminded his subjects that the Kabaka is not elected by the chiefs of the clan. Instead, he emphasized the established roles and responsibilities of the chiefs, as well as his own right to appoint the Katikkiro, who assists in ruling the kingdom. "The King rules the kingdom with the assistance of the Katikkiro, whom the King himself appoints. In our traditions, the Kabaka has the right to establish or revoke certain customs according to the times," he explained.

The celebrations at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala drew thousands of loyal Buganda subjects, who gathered to commemorate the anniversary with prayers. Led by the Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda and other members of the Royal family, the congregation listened to Namirembe Diocesan Bishop Moses Banja as he praised the Kabaka for his ongoing efforts to improve the lives of his people.

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II's message was clear: vigilance, unity, and respect for traditions are paramount to safeguarding the kingdom from those who seek to sow discord. As his subjects celebrated his 31 years of leadership, the Kabaka's words served as a reminder of the strength and resilience needed to protect their cherished heritage.
