According to exclusive reports obtained by The Nile Post, the Central Bank of UAE has issued a stern directive to all financial institutions within its jurisdiction, instructing them to cease any transactions involving Among, Nandutu, or Kitutu.
Furthermore, the UAE has ordered a freeze on any assets belonging to the sanctioned individuals and warned against their entry into the country.
Sources reveal that the Central Bank of UAE, known for its stringent financial regulations, only implements such targeted sanctions upon a cabinet decision.
The directive mandates licensed financial institutions to immediately freeze any funds or transactions involving the sanctioned individuals and report any matches within five business days.
This development comes in the wake of the UK's sanctions, where Among, Kitutu, and Nandutu were subjected to asset freezes and travel bans.
The UK government accused Kitutu and Nandutu of embezzling materials from a government housing project in Karamoja, with Among allegedly benefiting from the illicit gains.
In response, Speaker Among has vehemently opposed the sanctions, labeling them as "politically motivated" and a vendetta against her for her advocacy of the Anti-Homosexuality Act.
Meanwhile, the Ugandan government expressed surprise at the UK's actions, emphasizing the principle of sovereignty in bilateral relations.
The imposition of sanctions has not only sparked diplomatic tensions but also raised concerns about Uganda's international standing.
