Renowned Ugandan journalist Flavia Namulidwa has thrown her hat into the political arena, announcing her candidacy for the 2026 parliamentary elections. The former host of Bukedde TV has set her sights on representing the Gomba East Constituency in the 12th Parliament.

Namulidwa's decision adds her to the growing list of celebrities venturing into politics as the country gears up for the upcoming general elections.

Sources indicate that Namulidwa is vying for the National Unity Platform (NUP) nomination to contest in the constituency. With a substantial following on social media and her established television career, she aims to leverage her popularity to connect with voters and propel her campaign forward.

This marks Namulidwa's second attempt at securing a parliamentary seat. In 2017, amidst rumors of her departure from Bukedde, speculation arose regarding her candidacy for the Gomba seat in the 2021 election.

Allegedly seeking the NUP ticket, tensions reportedly led to her exit from the government-owned Vision Group. However, her political aspirations were put on hold, prompting her relocation to the United States, where she initially worked as a caretaker for the elderly—a role she described as demanding.

Expressing her commitment to delivering tangible results if elected, Namulidwa has outlined key areas of focus, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and essential public services such as roads, electricity, and water supply.

The Gomba East constituency is currently represented by NUP's Godfrey Saazi, while the other two parliamentary seats in the district (Gomba West and District Woman MP) are held by NRM MPs.
