Teddy Naluswa Bugingo has responded to remarks by Suzan Bugingo, arguing that a man’s current living situation should not determine whether a woman chooses to date or marry him.
Suzan, the longtime partner of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, recently attracted attention after advising women to know their worth and questioning why they would become emotionally invested in men who are still renting.
“Why would you cry for someone who’s still renting? Let’s cry for people who have built houses,” Suzan said at the Beauty Beyond The Scars event in September.
Her comments were presented in the context of encouraging women to value themselves and seek stability, rather than being entirely dependent on a partner. She also clarified that her remarks were not intended to belittle men who rent.
Teddy has now challenged that perspective, saying people should not judge potential partners solely by their present circumstances because life can change.
According to Teddy, God can uplift anyone and give them a better life, regardless of where they currently live or what they own.
She further pointed to her own experience, revealing that she gave birth to her first daughter while she was still married to Pastor Bugingo and the couple was living in a rented home.
For Teddy, the experience is an example of why women should not dismiss men simply because they have not yet built houses or accumulated significant wealth.
Her response adds another layer to the long-running public history between the two women. Teddy was married to Pastor Bugingo for nearly three decades and they have four children together before their relationship ended and he later became involved with Suzan.
The history between Teddy and Suzan has previously played out publicly through statements, disagreements and court-related disputes.
Teddy’s latest comments, however, focus on a broader message: that a person’s present financial circumstances do not necessarily determine their future, and that women should be cautious about allowing current material possessions to define the kind of partner they consider.
