The Pearl Rhythm Festival is back this year for its 7th edition. The festival as always will feature some of Uganda’s most prominent afro fusion artists come Saturday 26th October, 2019 at the Uganda National Cultural Centre from 11:00am to Midnight.

After a successful selection at the Pearl Rhythm Stage Coach auditions four (4) young and fresh artists were selected to join the Pearl Rhythm Family. The selected have gone through a two month mentorship exercise including studio production for The Pearl Rhythm Compilation CD and rehearsals. This is aimed at preparing them for their first Pearl Rhythm Festival performance in October the 26th. The four selected acts are Akongo Sings, DMC Vinikizo, Daphine Achiro and Brian Bussulwa.

We value, nurture and promote the indigenous cultures of Uganda as such our program contributes to the formation of a Ugandan music identity, as well as producing artists who are more professional, with a higher qualitysound. This year the festival will yet again feature some of Uganda’s leading fusion acts including Kenneth Mugabi, Anne Kansiime , Xenson Senkaaba, Jackson Kalimba (a special act from Congo ), Daphine Achiro, Akongo Sings, Brian Busuulwa and DMC Vinikizo all in a one day festival come the 26th of October.

Monthly Activations:

Pearl Rhythm activations are mini-festivals held at the National Theatre every last Monday of the month from May to September in the lead-up to the main event. They show off the Stage Coach acts, new and old, and give people an idea of what they can expect at the main festival. These activations are free to enter in partnership with the Uganda National Cultural Centre, and they may also provide opportunities for our other partners to contribute and engage the Pearl Rhythm audience.

This year’s season started off on May 27thwith our first edition where we featured Andereya Baguma, a stage coach finalist in 2018 and reigning PENDA song contest winner as well as a recording artist at Pearl Rhythm Productions. The second edition on June 24th introduced Lawrence Matovu, a bass guitarist who is also a founding member of the Arpeggio band and a recording artist at Pearl Rhythm Productions. Buka Chimey the stage coach finalist 2015 took on the 3rd edition in July, on the 29thwith a fired-up performance and new electro fusion twist to his hip-hop sound arranged by the Unique Arrangements band. The fourth edition featured Sheba Shahai on the 26th of August, and crowning it all will be Pelindah Umutoni on the 30th of September as we gear up for the Pearl Rhythm Festival on October the 26th .

About Pearl Rhythm Foundation:

The Pearl Rhythm Foundation is a local Ugandan grass roots music and creative community that aims to strengthen an independent music scene in Uganda. It was initiated and premiered in December 2012 with the objective of bringing together like-minded individuals to build, discuss and expose their ideas for a growing grass root music network in Uganda. The Pearl Rhythm Foundation offers a unique platform for those who aim to encourage the development of Ugandan cultural music, supporting the evolution of our traditional sounds and instruments, with an aim of creating a locally and internationally recognized identity for “Ugandan music,” while also improving the professionalization of the independent music sector in Uganda
