Its no longer headlines that one of the directors and co-founding members of Golden Band 'Omusiime' Mesach Semakula is no longer part of the music group after announcing his departure.
Whereas Semakula cited health concerns as the key reason for his quitting from the Band that he co-founded 8 years ago, Blizz Uganda has managed to unleash a number of reasons as to why the 'Onkuba' singer couldn't push on with business as a member of Golden Band;
1. Since its formation in 2014, Golden Band had failed to attain endurance in the competitive market after splitting from Eagles Productions. This instead took a portion of its former members like Geoffrey Lutaaya and wife Irene Namatovu and fans as well.
2. The Band had failed to suit the market demand to the extent that it didn't have what to market to their target audience like new hit songs thereby finding difficulty in staging music shows.
3. Many say that politics greatly sunk the Golden Band into the ocean leading its band singers and directors like Ronald Mayinja and Catherine Kusasira to confess their total support for the ruling NRM government and President Museveni.
This in the end led to divisionism amongst their fans who had different political ideologies thereby dropping in attendance of shows and others boycotting them indefinitely.
4. Financial struggles in Golden Band as the Band struggled to return to its good old days of the Eagles Production that rocked Kampala and the country at large with several performances.
Whereas it was not mentioned in the latest resignation by Ssemakula, but his letter somehow pointed to the financial struggles that the band is facing.
For example, Ssemakula said that the band’s music equipment which are the only assets it has had been confiscated by the landlord over shs12 million rent arrears.
“While the company owes me a sum of shs12 million, that I singlehandedly paid for as rent arrears for the release of musical instruments, I hereby forfeit the said debt and by this instrument I am willing to surrender the musical instruments to the continuing directors and shareholders of Golden Productions Uganda Limited who are at liberty to pick and collect them on a day and date they may deem fit,”Ssemakula said in the resignation letter.
This saw even the band recruit new signings that later dumped their duties mention the likes of Dr Hilderman, real name Hon Hillary Kiyaga of the Mazongoto fame.
5. Lastly, the exodus of prominent band musicians like Stecia Mayanja, Maureen Nantume, Carol Nantongo, Dr Hilderman among others purportedly due to witchcraft withing the Band and financial woes.
Despite all this, the good news is that Golden Band has since then regrouped and recruited new members to revamp its fading and preparations for a mega relaunch are in the pipelines.
