he National Drug Authority has recalled M-Magix Coffee after test results revealed that the beverage is adulterated.

According to the drug authority, the beverage which is sold as a sexual arousing drink for men was found to be laced with Sildenafil citrate, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, ulcers and pulmonary hypertension.

The drug is supposed to be used with a prescription from a qualified medical officer. It is reported to have side effects which include: extreme abdominal complications, respiratory and heart problems, and renal failure.

Dr Dennis Mwesigwa, the director of Inspection and Enforcement at the drug authority says the beverage is being recalled because it can cause harm to consumers.

According to Mwesigwa, the importer of the coffee has been advised to recall all supplied batches and stop sale of the beverage.

The coffee is imported by Dweyx International located along Dewinton road opposite National Theater.

M-Magix coffee is sold as a box containing sachets. According to the description of the product found on the website of the importers, the beverage is taken by mixing the coffee in a 150ml cup of water or milk. The product is advertised as being able to last in the body system for 72 hours. The product comes as either coffee or capsules.

The coffee is sold at 30,000 shillings on Jiji Uganda, an online outlet for products. URN’s efforts to get in touch with Dewyx were futile.
