Renowned veteran gospel singer Judith Babirye has expressed that her foray into politics remains one of her greatest regrets ever as it destroyed her life forever, separating her from people she loved so much including Bobi Wine. She has also cursed Bukedde TV for fueling all this drama.
In a recent interview, the former Woman Member of Parliament for Buikwe District, who served from 2016 to 2021, shared how her political ambitions fractured her fanbase and limited her ability to connect with friends from her music career.
Babirye noted that her music once resonated with all audiences, regardless of political affiliations. However, entering politics as a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) caused a rift in her relationships.
“People like Bobi Wine and Erias Lukwago were my friends during my music career, but when I joined politics, I automatically became their rival,” she explained.
Reflecting on her decision, Babirye acknowledged that she underestimated the impact it would have on her public persona, believing she would still be recognized as “Judith Babirye, the servant of God.”
In April 2019, she left Parliament and her marriage, allegedly to safeguard herself and her unborn child. Babirye later relocated to Boston, United States, where she gave birth to a baby boy.
