In a nail-biting overnight operation, Police successfully stopped an attempted aggravated robbery at the residence of former legislator Mubarak Munyagwa. The daring gang, armed with machetes, was on a mission to breach security before the police intervened, arresting one suspect on the scene.

The drama unfolded in the early hours of January 3rd, around 3 am, when the Nsangi Territorial Police received a tip about the impending crime at Munyagwa's home in Kimbejja Cell, Budo Ward, Kyengera Town Council. Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, praised the swift response of the Division Police Commander, preventing the assailants from gaining access to Munyagwa's fortress.

In the melee, Munyagwa's vigilant security guard, Benjamin Mpaka, sustained a head injury while bravely fending off the machete-wielding intruders. He was promptly whisked away to Mulago Hospital for treatment, ensuring that no harm befell those inside the residence.

Contrary to social media rumors, there was no on-scene shooting during the incident, as clarified by the police. To bolster their efforts, K9 units were deployed to the scene, but their effectiveness was hampered by a sudden downpour.

Amid the chaos, one suspect attempting to flee in a Datsun pick-up, with the registration number UAK 182A, was successfully apprehended. The suspect is now in custody, cooperating with ongoing police investigations.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Owoyesigyire commended Munyagwa for his prompt reporting, underscoring the crucial role it played in ensuring the safety of life and property. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the police's decisive action showcased their dedication to maintaining law and order.
