Nigerian music lovers are unsettled with anger and envy after a fresh video of superstar Tiwa Savage reuniting with her former Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy going viral, showing her kneeling don to pay respect.
In the now-viral clip, Tiwa is seen walking into the venue before spotting Don Jazzy. The “Somebody’s Son” hitmaker instantly broke into a big smile and went down on her knees to greet him, showing classic Yoruba respect.
Don Jazzy, clearly shocked, quickly pulled her up before the two shared a warm hug that had fans screaming “Aww!” across Instagram and X.
But Nigerians being Nigerians, the opinions didn’t stop at admiration.
A huge section praised Tiwa for honoring the man who helped shape her successful music career during her Mavin Records days as to them, her kneeling was a beautiful cultural moment and a sign of humility despite her global stardom.
Another camp didn’t agree at all. They questioned why Tiwa who is famously older than Don Jazzy, would kneel for him, sparking debates about age, respect, culture and celebrity hierarchy.
