Chinese electronics manufacturer TCL has filed a lawsuit against Samsung in the United States, accusing the South Korean electronics giant of falsely advertising some of its televisions as using “Mini LED” technology.
According to a Reuters report published on September 1, the lawsuit was filed in federal court in Los Angeles and centres on Samsung’s M Model televisions, which Samsung has marketed as featuring Mini LED technology.
TCL alleges in the lawsuit that the televisions do not contain the technological advancements normally associated with Mini LED technology and are instead based on Samsung’s standard LED televisions.
Mini LED technology is promoted as offering improved picture performance, including better contrast and dynamic range. TCL argues that consumers seeking these benefits could therefore have been misled by the way Samsung described the M Model televisions.
Samsung has rejected the allegations. In a statement cited by Reuters, the company said it intends to vigorously defend itself against the lawsuit and that it stands fully behind the quality and accuracy of its product descriptions.
TCL is asking the court to stop Samsung from using the disputed “Mini LED” description and is also seeking unspecified monetary damages.
The allegations have not been determined by the court, and Samsung continues to dispute TCL’s claims.
