House of Prayer Ministries International founder and senior pastor Aloysius Bugingo is mourning the death of his father, Aloyzi Bujjingo, who passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the age of 108.

The death was announced by Salt TV, the broadcaster associated with the pastor, which reported that the deceased was born in 1918.

“Pastor Aloysious Bujjingo’s Father has gone to be with the Lord,” the station posted in its announcement.

The cause and place of death had not been disclosed by the time of the announcement, while details of the burial arrangements were also yet to be communicated.

Bugingo previously introduced his parents to his congregation in October 2019 during an Independence prayer night held at Namboole Stadium. At the event, he revealed that his parents lived in Rwanda.

His father told worshippers that Bugingo was born in Masaka and remained with relatives when his parents returned to Rwanda.

The pastor has previously spoken about the difficult circumstances of his childhood, including poverty, frequent illness and an interrupted education.

He was raised by his maternal grandparents and other relatives, with his grandmother reportedly playing a significant role in caring for him during his childhood illnesses.

Bugingo has also recounted experiences of mistreatment and child labour while living with relatives, circumstances he said contributed to his decision to leave for Kampala before completing school.

According to accounts of his early life, he travelled to the city without transport money and secured a lift on a truck carrying matooke by offering to help unload the produce upon arrival.

In Kampala, friends later connected him to trader Godfrey Ssentongo, who employed him as a houseboy. Bugingo subsequently sold popcorn at Owino Market and saved money towards starting his own small business.

He later built a career in preaching and broadcasting, establishing House of Prayer Ministries International, which operates from Canaan Land in Makerere Kikoni. He also established Salt FM and Salt TV.

The pastor’s father leaves behind a family whose personal history Bugingo has occasionally shared with his congregation while recounting his journey from childhood hardship to religious leadership.
