Brig Gen Johnson Namanya has been released from military detention and cleared of all allegations following a meeting with Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

According to a statement issued by Col Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Namanya was freed from detention at the Kasenyi military installation after what was described as an amicable engagement.

The senior officer had earlier been arrested as part of an internal Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) crackdown targeting alleged corruption within the ranks.

Following the meeting, authorities confirmed that Brig Gen Namanya had been cleared of all accusations and is now set to resume his official military duties.

The development marks a swift resolution to a case that had drawn attention within military circles, particularly amid ongoing efforts by the UPDF leadership to address issues of discipline and accountability.

No further details were provided regarding the nature of the allegations or the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
