Tensions flared during a recent Kadongokamu artists’ meeting after Eddy Kenzo’s past remarks about old-school musicians not being wealthy or doing enough to Uplift their lives, some were seen shedding tears and cursing him.
Veteran singer Lord Fred Ssebata failed to hold back tears as he defended his mentor Dan Mugula, saying he could not sit through what he described as “disrespect” toward the generation that laid the foundation of Ugandan music.
Other legends, including Willy Mukabya and Ssebaale, were also seen emotional, questioning how today’s artists can downplay the sacrifices made in an era without digital promotion, streaming platforms, or major sponsorship deals.

The controversy stems from comments by Kenzo, who reportedly suggested that icons like Paul Kafeero and Dan Mugula achieved limited visible wealth compared to modern stars, remarks that many felt reduced their legacy to material success.
However, some observers argue that Kenzo’s words may have been taken out of context, insisting he was highlighting the evolution of the music industry rather than attacking pioneers.
