Popular Busoga radio presenter Resty Nanteza, popularly known as Nakapachu, has been arrested over allegations of defrauding and extorting money from job seekers by promising to secure them employment abroad.

Nanteza, who operates the Nakapachu Foundation, is accused of collecting between Shs500,000 and Shs4.5 million from individuals while claiming she could connect them to companies involved in labour externalisation.

Jinja Resident City Commissioner Salim Kumakech said the arrest followed numerous complaints from members of the public. He revealed that he had received more than 200 complaints against the presenter, with alleged victims also reporting cases at different police stations.

Kumakech said he coordinated a joint security operation involving personnel from Kampala after becoming concerned that previous complaints lodged at Jinja Central Police Station had not resulted in her arrest.

Nanteza was taken to Jinja Central Police Station and was expected to be transferred to the CID headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala, for further interrogation.

The RCC further claimed that the presenter had promised to refund people who accused her of taking their money. However, he expressed doubt about her ability to repay the alleged victims, estimating the outstanding claims at more than Shs600 million.

Kumakech also accused Nanteza of using other initiatives under her foundation to solicit money from vulnerable members of the community without delivering the promised benefits.

The allegations are yet to be determined through the relevant legal processes, and Nanteza has not been reported as having publicly responded to the accusations.
