A man pretending to be fast-rising dancehall star Kapeke has been arrested for allegedly scamming event promoters as he reportedly went around posing as the artist and collecting booking fees for shows he never performed.

According to sources, the scam had been running across multiple venues before it finally caught up with him.

Things escalated when Kapeke and his team reportedly tracked him down and apprehended him, later handing him over to police. A video now making rounds online shows both the real Kapeke and the impersonator at a police station as the matter was being handled.

Many users are joking that the suspect actually “looks more like Kapeke than Kapeke himself,” sparking a flood of memes, reactions, and wild comparisons online.

Under Uganda’s Penal Code Act (Sections 381 and 382), impersonation is a criminal offence that can land someone up to seven years in prison if convicted.
