If you thought making hit songs in Uganda was cheap—think again. Joshua Baraka has spilled the tea on how much it cost to make his now viral hit Wrong Places, and let’s just say, your wallet will laugh at you.
During an interview with Ruth Kalibbala, Baraka revealed that the beat behind the song currently sitting pretty at number one on Apple Music’s Top 100 in Uganda was produced by none other than Grammy Award-winning Nigerian producer JAE5. And that beat? It cost him a whopping £25,000, which is almost Ugx 100 million!
“He charged me £25,000 pounds for the beat, which is 18 million Naira. He’s the one who produced Wrong Places so I won’t lie to you, even if you get a discount, it’s still high,” Baraka said.
But before you start saying “Eh! This boy is crazy,” Baraka made it clear that it was a professional deal, and JAE5 actually liked him, which got him a sweet discount.
“He liked me and gave me a discount, and I chose him because he’s great. He has produced for some of the best people in the world,” he added.
