Big Talent Entertainment CEO Eddy Kenzo is in high spirits after bagging another Grammy nomination, this time for his global track “Hope and Love” featuring Iraqi producer Mehran Martin.
The BET Award-winning star revealed that the news reached him unexpectedly while he was chilling in his hotel room in Mbale.
“The news of my nomination for the Grammy Awards found me in a hotel room in Mbale as I was scrolling through my X account. Then I saw someone had posted saying Ghana had missed out on a nomination,” Kenzo narrated.
“On checking the list, I saw myself appearing on it. My heart skipped a beat. I was in the room alone, and I was confused. To be honest, it’s a good feeling, and I kneel and thank God.”
This becomes Kenzo’s second Grammy nod, solidifying his name among Africa’s most celebrated music exports.
Reflecting on his journey, Kenzo said his biggest strength lies in staying original and authentic something that has kept him unique in Uganda’s music scene.
“The difference between me and other Ugandan legends is that I am unique. What helped me the most was that I didn’t go too far with my educational studies to be a wiseacre. So I’m still original,” he said with a laugh.
“Even when you look at how I compose my melodies, I am me. Whoever wants my kind of sound will look for Eddy Kenzo in Uganda.”
Kenzo, who rose from humble beginnings in Masaka to become an international icon, explained that “Hope and Love” carries a message the world desperately needs — unity and compassion amid global chaos.
“The message in the song is what makes it special,” Kenzo said. “When you look at what’s going on in the world — wars, floods, disasters — you realize that what we need most right now is hope and love to comfort each other and live in harmony.”
