Ugandan singer and songwriter Buka Chimey has been introduced to the parents of his longtime partner, Mabel Namakula, in a lavish Kwanjula ceremony held in Kigo, Mutungo.

The colorful ceremony brought together close family members, friends, fellow musicians, creatives and producers as the couple celebrated their relationship in a traditional setting.

Buka Chimey, whose real name is David Musolo, and Mabel looked elegant as they took part in the ceremony, with their outfits adding to the glamour of the occasion.

Mabel dazzled in traditional Gomesi attire featuring intricate gold and green detailing, complemented by elaborate hair accessories. She later changed into a striking red and gold Gomesi as celebrations continued.

Buka, meanwhile, arrived in a green suit jacket worn over traditional Kanzu attire and a white head covering, accompanied by an entourage dressed in matching Kanzus and formal blazers.

The groom’s delegation arrived in a convoy carrying traditional gifts, including baskets of fresh fruits, wrapped presents and other items presented in accordance with the customs of the ceremony.

Family representatives and elders exchanged formal greetings and speeches as the two sides came together for the occasion.

Mabel’s entrance was also a highlight of the ceremony, as she was escorted by maidens and dancers performing traditional dances in matching green and peach outfits.

During an emotional moment, Mabel expressed her gratitude to Buka for keeping his promise and showing up with people close to him.

“My love… Thank you so much for keeping the promise, for coming, for seeing me, and for taking me and honoring me. You didn’t have to do this, but you came—and you came with everyone that is close to you. Thank you for coming,” she said.

Buka also serenaded Mabel with a live performance as friends and family cheered them on.

The couple later celebrated with a multi-tiered white cake decorated with floral accents and presented gifts to elders and family members.

Buka Chimey is known for blending hip hop, dancehall, Afrobeats and indigenous rhythms. He is also the founder of the live hip-hop group Bantu Clan and has released songs including “Biluma Abayaye,” “Beer After Beer” and “Tuli Waweru.”

The Kwanjula comes months after Buka and Mabel held a private civil wedding in Denmark in March 2026, attended by close family and friends.
