Ugandan singer Martha Mukisa has spoken out against body-shaming, urging people to embrace their natural bodies instead of allowing social media criticism to influence their self-confidence.

Martha acknowledged that social media can be toxic, particularly when discussions turn to people’s physical appearance, but said she has chosen to remain comfortable with the body she has.

“I’ll not do surgery on any part of my body and I’ll remain sexy as I am,” she said.

The singer said she considers herself confident and believes she already has some of the physical attributes that other women may seek through cosmetic procedures.

Martha clarified that she is not opposed to plastic surgery itself, but questioned why some people feel the need to constantly criticise or make negative comments about other people’s bodies.

“I’m actually not against people who do plastic surgery and make their bodies look better, but I don’t understand the people who always have something negative to say,” she said.

The singer also questioned what she described as a shift away from appreciating Black women and encouraging self-love, saying social media has instead created an environment where people are frequently judged based on their appearance.

Martha said she has personally encountered comments about her body online, including a recent comment suggesting that Fresh Diary should make her an ambassador because of her physical appearance.

Rather than allowing such remarks to undermine her confidence, Martha said criticism has often motivated her to push forward.

“When people see you in a better place, they always think that what weakens them will weaken you too,” she said.

According to the singer, she is happy with her body and does not intend to change it simply to meet other people’s expectations.

She encouraged people, particularly women, to develop greater appreciation for themselves and resist pressure to conform to constantly changing beauty standards.
