Omusuuga (Omujwera) Charles Kayondo Kamurasi, the head of the Babiito royal clan, became emotional and broke down in tears while delivering his farewell message in Rutooro during the funeral service of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
Kayondo delivered the emotional speech on September 12, 2026, at St. John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal, where mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the late Omukama.
Social media posts and video clips from the funeral showed the Omusuuga visibly moved as he addressed mourners, with the emotional moment adding to the sombre atmosphere surrounding the King’s final farewell.
At one point during his address, Kayondo appeared to ask God to forgive the late King if he had done anything wrong, while also asking the people of Tooro to forgive him for becoming emotional during his speech.
King Oyo died on August 27 in the United States at the age of 34 following treatment for cancer. He ascended the Tooro throne at the age of three and became the world’s youngest reigning monarch.
Following the church service, Oyo’s body was taken to the Karambi Royal Tombs, where he was buried alongside previous Tooro monarchs, including his father.
Kayondo was among the four main speakers at the funeral service, alongside Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, Princess Ruth Komuntale, and a representative of President Yoweri Museveni.
His emotional farewell came at a significant moment for the Tooro Kingdom, which is also facing an ongoing succession dispute following the death of King Oyo.
The Omusuuga, as head of the Babiito royal clan, has played a central traditional role in the succession process, which has seen differing positions emerge between the Babiito clan and members of the royal family.

For the mourners gathered in Fort Portal, however, the funeral remained primarily a moment to honour the late King, as Tooro said goodbye to a monarch who had spent more than three decades on the throne.
