Eevents promoter Norbert Twizire, popularly known as Nobat Events, has been remanded to Luzira Prison until October 26, 2026, as he faces allegations surrounding the management of funds belonging to the Kampala and Beyond United Music Promoters SACCO.

Nobat appeared before Makindye Magistrates Court on Monday, October 5, alongside fellow promoter Mujabi Twaha. The two are accused of allegedly misappropriating about Shs1 billion in government funds intended for the SACCO, as well as approximately Shs31.9 million in members’ savings.

The case comes shortly after reports that Nobat had been detained at Katwe Police Station over allegations connected to the management of promoters’ SACCO funds.

The controversy comes against the backdrop of a wider government financial support programme for music promoters. In September, the government confirmed the release of Shs10 billion to three promoters’ SACCOs through the Microfinance Support Centre, including the Kampala and Beyond United Music Promoters SACCO.

The government funding followed internal disagreements among promoters that resulted in the creation of three separate SACCOs. The Shs10 billion package was intended to provide promoters with affordable financing and support the growth of businesses within the entertainment sector.

Monday’s court appearance was also marked by a confrontation involving Nobat and another promoter over the SACCO funds dispute. Reports and video footage from the court premises showed the disagreement becoming heated and nearly turning physical before police intervened.

The allegations against Nobat and Mujabi have not been determined by court, and the matter remains subject to further investigation and court proceedings.

Nobat will return to court on October 26, 2026, when the case is expected to proceed to its next stage.
