After a full week of chest-thumping from Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Bobi Wine\u2019s bodyguard Eddie Mutwe has finally resurfaced \u2014 and not at a press conference or his home, but at Masaka Magistrates’ Court, barely able to walk and slapped with tough charges.<\/em><\/p>\n

The once-missing right-hand man to NUP boss Robert Kyagulanyi was delivered by plainclothes security operatives in a white Toyota Mark X like a mystery package, straight to court cells. Eyewitnesses say Mutwe was limping and needed support to even make it into the dock \u2014 a clear sign that whatever happened in those missing days, it wasn\u2019t a vacation.<\/p>\n

And just when Ugandans were still digesting the shock of his dramatic reappearance, six criminal charges were thrown his way \u2014 including aggravated robbery, assault, and malicious damage to property.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prosecutors claim that during a burial in Lwengo last year, Eddie and a group of others allegedly robbed journalist Margaret Kayondo of a sweater and phone worth Shs730,000 while threatening her with knives. He\u2019s also accused of beating up another journalist, damaging a camera, and robbing several more mourners \u2014 stealing phones, cash, and even someone\u2019s national ID. Eh!<\/p>\n

The burial, according to reports, turned chaotic when media was blocked from covering it \u2014 and things allegedly turned violent with Bobi Wine\u2019s private security clashing with reporters.<\/p>\n

Despite being barely able to stand, Eddie Mutwe stood in the dock as Masaka Chief Magistrate Abdallah Kayiza read out the charges. The State requested more time to wrap up investigations, and court adjourned the matter to May 25.<\/p>\n

Mutwe now joins a group of other NUP bodyguards already committed to trial. His lawyer, Mageran Kazibwe, managed to access court after some struggle and didn\u2019t mince words about his client\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was badly beaten. The man could hardly walk, but he\u2019s strong,\u201d Kazibwe said. \u201cWe condemn such treatment, and we\u2019re demanding immediate medical care.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Security at court was tighter than a drum. Journalists were kicked out, phones off, and cameras blocked \u2014 all while the country watched this drama unfold.<\/p>\n

Despite these criminals trying to ensure journalists do not capture the state of comrade Eddie Mutwe, you can see him limping and unable to walk on his own.
