<\/p>\nThe Chief Magistrate\u2019s Court in Nakawa has granted cash bail of Shs500,000 to National Unity Platform (NUP) Electoral Management Committee member Johnmary Ssebuwuufu, who also serves as Nakawa Division Lord Councillor and released him under strict conditions that include depositing his passport.<\/p>\n
Ssebuwuufu was asked to present sureties bonded at Shs5 million non-cash each, and uploading his National ID onto the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECMIS).<\/p>\n
However, he told court that his national ID was lost during his arrest.<\/p>\n
The councillor was reportedly picked up on January 14 from the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda, where he had been overseeing electoral activities.<\/p>\n

Prosecution alleges that Ssebuwuufu mobilised groups in Mpigi, Kampala and Masaka to attack supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), leading to charges of inciting violence. He denies the accusations.<\/p>\n
His arrest comes amid a broader crackdown on opposition figures linked to the NUP, particularly around the election period.<\/p>\n
Several senior party officials have faced similar arrests, including Vice President for Western Uganda Jolly Tukamushaba and Deputy President for Northern Uganda Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, who was later released.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Butambala County MP Muwanga Kivumbi, who also serves as NUP Vice President for the Central Region, remains in custody.<\/p>\n
