Trouble has once again landed on National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter Olivia Lutaaya, after she was today brought before the Kanyanya Court in Kawempe and formally charged with unlawful drilling, a case that has sparked renewed tension between the opposition and security forces.<\/p>\n
According to prosecution, Lutaaya\u2019s case is linked to alleged paramilitary-style training that reportedly took place at NUP offices in Kampala, something that security agencies claim posed a threat to the country\u2019s stability and gave \u201ctop officials in State House sleepless nights.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The charges now place her on the same file with other key NUP figures including Deputy Spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro, bodyguard Edward Ssebuufu a.k.a. Eddie Mutwe, and several other party members currently on remand over similar accusations.<\/p>\n This development comes as a major twist for Ms. Lutaaya, who had been released last year from the General Court Martial in Makindye after receiving a presidential pardon.<\/p>\n Her latest arrest happened last week in Mbarara District, where she was part of Bobi Wine\u2019s campaign trail, before being transferred to Kampala for further questioning.<\/p>\n The NUP camp has remained tight-lipped about the matter so far, but insiders hint at possible political motives behind the renewed case.
